Alicia Pillar has always been slightly obsessed (in a good way) with the miraculous symmetry of the natural world. Her works resemble a cross-section of a living organism, lending a fluidity and organic quality to her inimitable designs. Organic chemistry. Cool.

Alicia became a jewelry designer in earnest at the age of 22. At the time, she was happily engrossed in beads of many colors. But one day she came across a vast amount of suede.  (That’s a story for another day that simply begs for a stiff drink.) Born of unexpected opportunity, a signature sensibility was born. Alicia began to work exclusively in suede—a material that conjures cowboys and rock stars—experimenting, inventing, dreaming and eventually creating a style and technique completely her own. 

Designs by Alicia P. is a unique collection of suede & beaded jewelry and hand-painted clothing.  The suede & beaded jewelry can best be described as mini-sculptures or works of art, where suede takes on an intricately rendered and exquisite life of its own. The pieces have evolved from simplified forms using solely suede, to massively detailed forms, incorporating beads, chain, and other found objects. Alicia’s designs are ornate and lyrical, with a touch of ladylike Victoriana, beautifully balanced by a powerful dose of urban edge.  www.designsbyaliciap.com
