Frederick James

Frederick James is a man about town and one of those hip-with-the-tech people who snagged an iPad before you even figured out how to use the touch screen on your phone. He's not all wires and waves, though—Frederick has a penchant for style and a taste for luxury. So one chill evening, whilst sipping dark ‘n’ stormies with friends on a deck in Montauk, Frederick placed his new iPad in the loving arms of an abandoned cashmere sweater. He immediately understood that iPads everywhere longed for the cozy elegance and shelter of cashmere. And thus, his mission cozily unfolded before him: to provide the huddled masses of shivering, naked iPads with cashmere sweaters to keep them safe and warm. 

Frederick began by "rescuing" lonely pieces of cashmere from the backrooms of fabric stores, which he then cut and pinned into a prototype cover for a friend to stitch into being. But one cover, he knew, was not enough. In pursuit of his vision to leave "no iPad left undressed," Frederick called up his friends at Doucette, who immediately hopped onboard. Soon this team's line of iPad fashion, including pieces crafted from excess Doucette fabric, was in full production. Frederick's little family of iPad cover collections grew from there, providing a chic range of choices, from the original classic cashmere of The Lodge collection, to the smart renderings of Doucette fabrics. And so iPads everywhere found comfort in the cozy embrace of their new sweaters, and a soft whir was heard round the world, as once-naked little processors purred with gratitude.

A happy ending to the story? Yes, indeedy. But there's an epilogue, if you will. You see, one dreary Saturday morning Frederick read about an auction to sell notorious corporate criminal Bernie Madoff's assets. As he glumly browsed the list of items up for auction, Frederick almost choked on his coffee. For among the items listed were multiple lots of cashmere sweaters!  The ultimate fabric rescue and up-cycle! Frederick answered the call of duty and returned from the auction twelve hours later with armfuls of Bernie's finest cardigans and crews. And thus, The Bernie Madoff collection joined Frederick's family of designs, fulfilling the need for the discerning consumer in search of a cozy/tech-y accoutrement with a bit of irreverence and a good story to tell.  www.frederickjames.com
